It’s an understatement to say that 2020 was a difficult year for everyone.
Here at Family Care for Children & Youth, we sincerely appreciate your ongoing support and would like to take this opportunity in our first post of the year to say thank you.
We would also like to take this opportunity to tell you why 2021 — in addition to being a year filled with hope and optimism — is also a great time to learn more about becoming a foster parent.
If you’re considering becoming a foster parent this year, we hope that this post will help you solidify your decision and that you’ll reach out to a Family Care for Children & Youth location near you!
4 Reasons to Become a Foster Parent
Children Need Foster Parents More Than Ever
The effects of COVID-19 are still being felt around the world, and Pennsylvania is certainly no exception. Many children are still in need of caring homes, especially given the effects that isolation and uncertainty can have on their mental health.
While the pandemic has certainly made foster care more difficult, our organization is closely following both state and federal guidelines in order to ensure that we’re keeping our staff, children, and families safe.
You’ll Grow Your Network
We’re willing to bet that you’re just as ready as we are to see friends, family, coworkers, and other people in your life in person. Although a future in which it’s completely safe to do so is still months away, becoming a foster parent is a great way to become connected to other like-minded people by getting to other foster parents and participating in the foster care community. And after the year we’ve all endured, who wouldn’t like more social connections?
Becoming a Foster Parent Is Extremely Rewarding
Many new foster parents tell us that becoming part of the FCCY network helped them to discover a sense of belonging and purpose that they never knew they were missing.
If you’ve been on the fence about fostering, just consider that by opening your heart and your home to a child in need, you’ll quite literally be changing a life for the better. You’ll be a source of support and love for a child who is likely in need of stability, patience, and understanding. How many things in life are more rewarding than making a profoundly positive impact on a child’s future?
We’ll Be There to Help
If becoming a foster parent feels like a daunting task, just remember that the Family Care for Children & Youth team will be there to provide support for you every step of the way. We’ve helped countless families foster and adopt children out of the Pennsylvania foster care system, and there’s truly nothing that we love more than showing prospective parents just how rewarding foster care can be.
