PENNSYLVANIA FOSTER CARE SERVICE OVERVIEW

FAMILY-BASED FOSTER CARE SERVICES

The family-based foster care services offered by Family Care for Children & Youth are designed to support children who have special needs, behavioral issues, difficulty in school, and more. In these cases, the child’s needs go beyond what traditional foster homes can offer. Unfortunately, many of these children end up being sent to group homes or state-operated institutions. While these programs do offer quality care and seek to provide each child with a safe and stable environment, they cannot replicate the loving and supportive environment of a family. At Family Care for Children & Youth, we place children in foster homes that are able to provide them with guidance and support each and every day. We also regularly contact biological families at least once each month to go over visitation and the child’s progress.

Medically Fragile Program

Family Care for Children & Youth, Inc. believes that families are the best possible placement and the most normative environment for any child or youth. Children and youth with any level of medical need are best served by specially selected foster care families when they must be cared for outside of their biological family. The Medically Fragile Foster Care Program is designed to meet a child or youth’s physical health needs by arranging services on an outpatient basis rather than an inpatient or institutional basis. Medically Fragile Foster Care includes such tasks as assisting with personal hygiene, dressing, feeding, monitoring and operating medical equipment, and assistance with any medical-related needs.

This service is offered at all locations.

KINSHIP CARE

The family-based foster care services offered by Family Care for Children & Youth are designed to support children who have special needs, behavioral issues, difficulty in school, and more. In these cases, the child’s needs go beyond what traditional foster homes can offer. Unfortunately, many of these children end up being sent to group homes or state-operated institutions. We also regularly contact biological families at least once each month to go over visitation and the child’s progress.

HOMEMAKER SERVICES

The homemaker services offered by Family Care for Children & Youth are designed to complement all of our placement and reunification programs. Homemakers model the roles of parents, providers, and citizens for not just the child, but for the family as a whole. We believe that family life should be approached holistically, and our Pennsylvania homemaker services have three main goals:

To ensure that children are placed into safe and supportive homes that can meet their individual needs. This is accomplished via frequent homemaker visits, assessments, and training.
To strengthen the biological/legal family in order to prevent additional placement once our homemaker services have come to an end.
To empower families to become more self-sufficient through the discovery and use of community resources.

We offer:

  • TFamily profiles
  • Child profiles
  • Child preparation services
  • Finalization
  • Child-specific recruitment
  • Post-permanency services
  • Training, support, reporting, and more

RESPITE CARE

Respite care is a short-term arrangement in which a child is placed with a new family. It can be pre-planned to give parents and caregivers time to take care of themselves, and it can also be used during emergency situations in which a child needs to relocate to a familiar setting. Respite care can also benefit children who would like to take a break from group homes, institutions, and other living situations. Respite care is just one several short-term foster care services we offer in Pennsylvania. Please get in touch with one of our locations if you would like to learn more about how you or a child under your care could benefit from this program.

OUR HAPPY FAMILIES SAY IT ALL

Check out our success stories below

"THEY CARE ABOUT THE CHILDREN AND ARE VERY THOROUGH"

My husband and I always tell people that talk to us about wanting to foster or adopt about our agency. We enjoy working with this agency because the staff not only care about the careful placement of a child but also about us as a family. Our agency is available and quick to respond to us whether we have an emergency or just a question. They care about the children and are very thorough to ensure the children and the foster family are getting what they need.

"WE ENJOY GIVING BACK"

Fostering is very positive experience not only for ourselves but also for the child’s well-being. We enjoy giving back. Providing a loving, nurturing home to a child gives the child an opportunity to have a normal childhood as possible.

"WE WOULD RECOMMEND FCCY"

Picking FCCY to work with has been the best thing my husband and I could have done. We have had only positive experiences with this agency. The case managers are so good and give you total support as a foster parent. We would recommend FCCY to others looking into foster care.
